Conner, David (1792–1856) naval officer; born in Harrisburg, Pa. He served with distinction in the War of 1812. As commander of the Home Squadron (1843–47) he meticulously planned the amphibious landing of General Winfield Scott's troops at Veracruz. His plans were later studied as a precedent for World War II amphibious landings.
