Kanaris, Konstantinos
Born circa 1790 on the island of Psara; died Sept. 14, 1877, in Athens. Greek statesman and naval commander. Participant in the Greek War of Independence of 1821–29. Kanaris was elected to the National Assembly in 1826. In1843^14 and 1854 he was minister of the Greek Navy. In1864–65 and 1877, Kanaris headed the Greek government.
