Constantinescu-Iaşi, Petre 

Born Nov. 25, 1892. Rumanian historian and public figure. Member of the Rumanian Academy, corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and honorary doctor of historical sciences of Moscow State University.

Constantinescu-Iaşi was active in the revolutionary and antifascist movement and helped found the society Friends of the USSR in 1934. In bourgeois-landlord Rumania he was repeatedly subjected to persecution. After World War II he was deputy chairman of the Presidium of the Grand National Assembly of the Rumanian People’s Republic (1948–53) and minister of religions (1953–57). Between 1948 and 1963 he served as deputy chairman of the General Council of the Society of Rumanian-Soviet Friendship. From 1957 to 1964 he was director of the Rumanian-Soviet Institute of the Academy of the Rumanian People’s Republic, and from 1963 to 1965 he was a member of the State Council of the Rumanian People’s Republic. He is the author of many works on archaeology, history, art, and the modern and contemporary history of Rumania. Constantinescu Iaşi received the State Prize of the Rumanian People’s Republic in 1963.
