continuous phase [kən¦tin·yə·wəs ′fāz]
(chemistry)
The liquid in a disperse system in which solids are suspended or droplets of another liquid are dispersed. Also known as dispersion medium, external phase.
(metallurgy)
The matrix or background phase of a multiphasic alloy.
