Pop 2005: 29,164. State rank: 30. Pop change: 2000-20005 1.40%; 1990-2000 4.20%. Pop 2000: 28,757 (White 47.40%; Black or African American 51.00%; Hispanic or Latino 1.20%; Asian 0.20%; Other 1.10%). Foreign born: 0.80%. Median age: 34.00. Income 2000: per capita $12,408; median household $26,358; Pop below poverty level: 25.10%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $17,059-$18,965.
