Mbandaka (əmbändä`kä), formerly Coquilhatville (kôkēyävēl`), city (1984 pop. 137,291), capital of Équateur province, W Congo (Kinshasa), a port on the Congo River. It is a commercial and transportation center and has tanning and fishing industries.
Mbandaka (Coquilhatville until 1966), a city in Zaýre, the administrative center of Equator Province. Located on the left bank of the Congo (Zaire) River where the Ruki River flows into it.
