Corazzi, Antonio

Born Dec. 16, 1792, in Livorno; died Apr. 26, 1877, in Florence. Polish architect in the classical tradition. Italian by origin.

Corazzi studied at the Academy of Arts in Florence between 1810 and 1816. From 1818 to 1847 he worked in Poland, chiefly in Warsaw, where he designed the Theatre and Bank (now Dzierżyński) squares, as well as a number of imposing public buildings that give the center of the Polish capital its characteristic appearance, including Staszic Palace (1820–23), the State Commission of the Exchequer (1824–25), the Polish Bank (1828–30), and the Grand Theater (1825–32).
