Cordero, Angel, Jr.

Cordero, Angel, Jr. (“Junior”) (1942–  ) jockey; born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He began his career as a groom at El Commondante racetrack, to which he returned as a trainer after retiring as a jockey in the early 1990s. He broke many records and was the only jockey to win more than $5 million per season six times. In 1982 he won four stakes in three days at three tracks separated by 3,000 miles, and also won the Eclipse Award. In 1983 he was the fourth jockey to have more than 5,000 career victories (including the Kentucky Derby in 1974, 1976, and 1985) and the third to have won more than $72 million.
