Coregonus Cylindraceus
(in Russian, valek or konek), a whitefish of the salmon family, up to 40 cm long and cylindrical in shape. The scales along its sides are smaller than those on the rest of its body. It lives in the rivers of Eastern Siberia (from the Enisei to the Kolyma). In the rivers of North America the breed is represented by a particular subspecies. The Coregonus cylindraceus prefers rivers with a fast current and a rock bottom. Spawning occurs in September or October, and the females produce 4, 600-14, 300 roe. The fish are of little economic importance. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
