Corfu, Declaration of

an agreement signed on the island of Corfu (Kerkira), on July 20, 1917, by N. Pashich, the prime minister of Serbia, and A. Trumbich, the chairman of the Yugoslav Committee, founded in May 1915 in London. The Corfu Declaration provided for the unification of Serbia and the Yugoslav lands of Austria-Hungary into a single, independent state at the end of World War I (1914–18). The state was to be a constitutional monarchy, under the Serbian Karageorgevich dynasty. The Montenegrin Committee of National Unification, formed in Paris in March 1917, accepted the Corfu Declaration on Aug. 11, 1917.
