Corrèze
a department in central France. Area, 5,900 sq km. Population, 238,000 (1972). The administrative center is the city of Tulle. Corrèze is situated on the western slopes of the Massif Central. It is an agricultural region with a declining population. (Since 1901 the number of inhabitants has declined by 25 percent.) Cattle are raised, and rye, wheat, buckwheat, and potatoes are grown. In the valleys of rivers, vegetables, fruits, and tobacco are also grown. Building materials are quarried in the department. Industry includes food processing, textiles, and ceramics.
