Corrugation
the formation of corrugations (bends or waves) on sheets of ferrous and nonferrous metals, asbestos cement, cardboard, or fabric in order to increase the materials’ stiffness under conditions of bending or compression strains. Rounded corrugations are most often used; trapezoidal, triangular, and more complicated forms are less frequent. Corrugation is performed on presses (by molding) or between shaped rolls (by rolling). Corrugated materials are widely used in construction, the aircraft industry, and other branches of engineering. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
