Ligurian Sea (lĭgy
r`ēən), arm of the Mediterranean Sea, between the Ligurian coast (Italian Riviera) and the islands of Corsica and Elba; the Gulf of Genoa is its northernmost part. The sea receives the Arno River from the east. The ports of Genoa, La Spezia, and Livorno are on its rocky coast. The sea's northwest coast is noted for its favorable climate and scenic beauty.Ligurian Sea part of the Mediterranean Sea between the islands of Corsica and Elba and the coasts of France and Italy. It contains the large Gulf of Genoa. Depths exceed 2,500 m. Semidiurnal tides measure 0.3 m. The coast of the Ligurian Sea is an important resort region (the Italian and French rivieras).
