Corynebacterium [¦kȯr·ə‚nē·bak′tir·ē·əm] (microbiology) A genus of gram-positive, straight or slightly curved rods in the coryneform group of bacteria; club-shaped swellings are common; includes human and animal parasites and pathogens, and plant pathogens. The most common bacteria were Staphylococcus aureus, Morganella morganii, Corynebacterium spp, Bacteroides melaninogenicus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Proteus spp. Their study indicated that tylosin-resistant bacteria, primarily Corynebacterium, accounted for 80% of total culturable bacteria detected. |
