Cow Tree
(Brosimum galactodendron, or Galactodendron utile), a tree of the family Moraceae. It is up to 30 m high. The leaves are entire, and the flowers (one pistillate and many staminate) are in capitate inflorescences. The cow tree grows in the tropics of South America and is cultivated in tropical Asia. It contains a milky juice that resembles cow’s milk and is used in food and in the production of chewing gum; it also yields a vegetable wax, which is used in the manufacture of candles.
