Location: Between Carbondale and Marion in southern Illinois. Facilities: Visitor contact station, campgrounds, picnic areas, marina, auto tour route, trails, observation tower. Activities: Camping, boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, bicycling, hunting, educational programs. Special Features: Refuge includes three manmade lakes (totaling 8,700 acres), 21,000 acres of forest, and a 4,050-acre wilderness area. Habitats: 43,878 acres of fields, wetlands and rolling hills. Access: Unlimited. Wild life: Canada geese, hawks,shorebirds, owls, white-tailed deer, raccoons, wild turkey, rabbit, turtles and frogs. See other parks in Illinois.
