Crane, Carl J. (1900–82) aviator; born in San Antonio, Texas. He was commissioned in the Air Corps in 1924 and, over a long career, proved himself to be an engineering innovator, particularly the development of blind flight and automatic flight and landing instruments. He was coauthor of Blind Flight in Theory and Practice (1932).
