In east-central OK, southwest of Tulsa; organized Nov 16, 1907 from Cherokee lands. Name Origin: For the Creek Nation, a loose confederation of southeastern tribes of Muskhogean linguistic stock. The name is from "Ochese Creek Indians." applied to them by settlers in what is now TN. They were probably the Yuchi.
