Cressey, Donald R. (1919–87) sociologist of crime; born in Fergus Falls, Minn. An authority on juvenile delinquency, organized crime, embezzlement, and other white-collar crimes, he was one of the foremost practicing sociologists of crime. After teaching at the University of California: Santa Barbara (1962–86), he assumed the presidency of the Institute for Financial Crime Prevention after retirement. He served as an adviser to national and state agencies concerned with formulating law and policy and was the author of numerous books and texts.
