Crippen, Hawley Harvey (1862–1910) physician, murderer; born in Michigan. In 1896 he settled in London with his second wife, whom he poisoned and buried in his cellar in 1909. With his secretary-lover, he fled on an Atlantic liner, but was arrested on board, becoming the first person ever to be apprehended with the help of radio.
