A Unix utility (Unix daemon) that executes commands in a crontab file at a specified time and date. Cron is used to schedule such functions as backup and maintenance procedures.

A time unit equal to 106years; used in reference to evolutionary processes.
(operating system)cron - The Unix clock daemon that executes commands at specified dates and times according to instructions in a "crontab" file.
