Size: 36,347 acres.
Established: Established on October 23, 1972; wilderness designated on September 8, 1982. Designated a Biosphere Reserve in 1986.
Location: 7 miles east of St. Marys, Georgia, accessible by a concession-operated passenger ferry.
Facilities: Campgrounds, picnic area, rest rooms (é), bathhouse, visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail.
Activities: Camping, hiking, swimming, fishing, ranger-led tours.
Special Features: Magnificent and unspoiled beaches and dunes, marshes, and freshwater lakes, along with historic sites, make up the largest of Georgia's Golden Isles.
