Cunninghame Graham, Robert Bontine

Cunninghame Graham, Robert Bontine (kŭn`ĭngəm), 1852–1936, British politician and author. He lived as a cattle rancher in Argentina and traveled widely in Latin America, Morocco, and Spain. He served (1886–90) as a Liberal member of Parliament from Scotland, took part in early labor politics, and, with James Keir Hardie, founded (1888) the Scottish Labour party. Later he was first president (1928) of the Scottish Nationalist party. His writings include collections of sketches and tales, such as The Ipané (1899) and Rodeo (1936), and historical studies of Spanish conquistadors.
