Curtius Rufus, Quintus

    0.01 sec.
Curtius Rufus, Quintus

an ancient Roman historian and rhetorician of the first century A.D.

About A.D. 40, Curtius Rufus wrote his Latin History of Alexander the Great (ten books; Russian translation, 1963). The first two books, which are believed to have covered the events from the crowning of Alexander to his campaign deep into Asia Minor, have been lost. Books 3–10 deal with the period from 333 B.C. to the death of Alexander.

Curtius Rufus’ work reflects the tradition of histories unfavorable to Alexander the Great, such as those of the Greek Cleitar-chus of Alexandria and possibly the Greek Callisthenes, who was executed by Alexander, as well as of Roman Stoic writers whose works have not been preserved.
