Custer State Park

Location: 5 miles east of Custer off US 16A.
Facilities: 323 campsites, horsemen's camp, picnic areas, picnic shelter, hiking trails, bridle trails, fishing dock, historic site, 2 visitor centers, theater playhouse, playground, volksmarch.
Activities: Camping, boating, canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, rock climbing, interpretive programs.
Special Features: Park is located in the Black Hills and has spectacular terrain. One of the scenic drives in the area is Needles Highway (SD 87), which passes towering rock formations and goes through narrow tunnels. At the end of one tunnel stands the Needles Eye, a granite spire with a slit only 3 to 4 feet wide but reaching 30 to 40 feet in the air. There are four resorts at the park, each with its own personality and activities.
