cut and paste

To move an object from one location to another. When the operation is complete, there is nothing left in the original location. It may refer to relocating files from one folder to another or to relocating selected text or images from one document to another. All modern operating systems and applications have cut and paste capability that is typically selected from an Edit menu.

It Could Be "Copy and Paste"
The term "cut and paste" is commonly and erroneously used to refer to "copy and paste," which actually duplicates the data. In many, if not most, cases, users are copying files from one storage location to another or copying data from one document to another and are not actually relocating them. An editing function of a word processing system in which a portion of text is marked with a particular character at the beginning and at the end and is then copied to another location within the text. Also known as block move.
