cut and paste
To move files and folders from one location to another or to move text and images from one document to another. All modern operating systems and applications support a cut and paste capability, typically selected from an Edit menu. Cut removes the selected element, and Paste inserts it at the current cursor location. After the cut and paste operation is performed, there is nothing left in the original location.

"Cut and Paste" Is Often "Copy and Paste"
Users very often duplicate data by copying files, folders, images and text from one location to another. However, they often tend to refer to the operation as "cut and paste," which is a relocation, rather than the more accurate "copy and paste." See clipboard, copy and paste and Win Copy between windows.
cut and paste [¦kət ən ′pāst]
(computer science)
An editing function of a word processing system in which a portion of text is marked with a particular character at the beginning and at the end and is then copied to another location within the text. Also known as block move.
