Established: Authorized as a national recreation area on December 27, 1974; established on June 26, 1975; redesignated as a national park on October 11, 2000. Location: 22 miles along the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio. Facilities: Picnic area, rest rooms (é), lodging, bicycle trail, visitor centers (é), museum/exhibit, 4 golf courses, winter sports center, self-guided tour/trail. Activities: Hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, fishing, golf, birdwatching, winter sports, scenic train rides, interpretive programs, concerts, artist-in-residence programs, lecture series. Special Features: Preserving the rural character of the Cuyahoga River Valley, park includes more than 125 miles of multi-purpose trails, as well as a number of historically significant sites. The 20-mile Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail follows the historic route of the canal. The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad offers various excursions through the park on a year-round basis.
