Cybernetics, Institute of 

(full name, Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR), a scientific research institution in Kiev. The institute was established in 1962 from the computer center of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, which had been organized in 1957. The institute conducts research in theoretical, economic, biological, and engineering cybernetics; systems engineering; computer technology; and computer mathematics. A number of digital, analog, and hybrid computers have been developed at the institute and introduced into industrial production. Model automated production control systems and systems for planning complex technical units have been designed. The institute publishes two journals, Kibernetika (Cybernetics; since 1965) and Avtomatika (Automation; since 1956). In 1969 the institute was awarded the Order of Lenin.
