cyclin

[′sī·klin]

Any member of a family of proteins that regulate the cell cycle and whose cellular levels rise steadily until mitosis, then fall abruptly to zero. As cyclins reach a threshold level, they are thought to drive cells into G2 phase and thus toward mitosis.
