(redirected from Cynus da Pistoia)

Cino da Pistoia (chē`nō dä pēstô`yä), 1270–1337?, Italian jurist and poet, whose full name was Guittoncino dei Sinibaldi, or Sighibuldi. A friend of Dante and Petrarch, he wrote treatises on jurisprudence as well as numerous lyrics and sonnets dealing with the psychology of love. His verse, musical and tender, foreshadows the work of Petrarch. For translations, see D. G. Rossetti, The Early Italian Poets (1904 ed.).
