An embedded version of DB2 designed for cellphones, PDAs and other dedicated devices. It is a slimmed-down version of IBM's flagship database management system (DBMS).

Because DB2 Everyplace can be embedded into these devices, it can be used as a local independent database of the mobile device or to query information on remote servers when a connection is available.
Sony is expected to use the software, which is a modified version of IBM's DB2 Everyplace personal computer database software, in DVD recorders and flat-screen TVs to be released in fiscal 2004, the Japanese business daily said.
