DMX512
(Digital MultipleXed 512) A unidirectional protocol for controlling lights, fog machines and special effects devices in live stage performances. Offering 512 channels per link, DMX512 is based on RS-485 electrical signaling. The target devices are daisy chained together with DMX "In" plugs and DMX "Out" sockets, and cables use 5-pin XLR connectors.

MAL Effekt also developed a custom DMX512 Power module that was used drive the LEDs, generate the desired colors, and control both color point and brightness via pulse width modulation (PWM).
