An external command that allows changes to a variety of settings. Following are common examples:
mode com1:9600,n,8,1
SET THE SERIAL PORT FOR THE PRINTER To set the first serial port to 4800 baud and even parity for a printer, type:
mode com1:4800,e,,,p
REDIRECT THE PRINTER PORT To redirect printing from the parallel port to serial port #1, type:
mode lpt1:=com1: reroute data
mode lpt1 cancel rerouting
CHANGE KEYBOARD SPEED (TYPEMATIC RATE) As of DOS 4.01, the Mode command can be used to change the keyboard repeat rate and the amount of delay before repeating. For example, to change the rate to 20 and the delay to .5 sec, type:
mode con: rate=20 delay=2
Rates: 1-32 Delays: 1-4 (.25 .50 .75 1.0 sec.) LEFT HANGING IN 40-COLUMN MODE? If a program leaves you in 40-column mode (extra wide text characters on screen), you can switch back to 80 column mode with
