DOS box

DOS box
Slang for a DOS session in Windows or OS/2. The "box" is actually an instance of the Intel x86 Virtual 8086 Mode, which simulates an independent, fully functional PC environment. See Virtual 8086 Mode.

It does this so easily that I seldom notice the old DOS name anymore unless I shell out to a DOS box.
