DQbroker

(Distributed Query BROKER) Database middleware from Decision Support, Inc., Matthews, NC (www.decisionsupport.com) that provides enterprise data access to heterogeneous databases. Working with more than 70 relational and hierarchical database systems running under Unix or Windows NT/2000, DQbroker enables a single SQL statement from any query program on any platform to execute against any number of databases in the network.

The DQBroker software resides in each database server and maintains meta-data about all the other database servers in the network. The SQL call can be made from the client to any one of the DQbroker-supported databases in the network. DQbroker supports high-speed processing by providing parallel execution of joins between distributed databases, which may even improve performance between databases of the same type. See DQpowersuite.

Distributed Vs. Centralized Architecture
Since DQbroker resides in all the database servers, it enables a query to be sent to any of them. In a hub and spoke architecture, the query goes to a central location.

com recently implemented Metagon's DQbroker(R) omni-platform data integration solution within their enterprise, and will soon offer an ASP model of DQbroker by subscription to smaller insurance providers.
Metagon's DQbroker is a field-proven, peer-to-peer (P2P) distributed processing solution that makes all enterprise data appear as a single data source, and delivers full database functionality enterprise-wide, regardless of platform or application.
Until I saw DQbroker at work, I didn't believe a solution for this kind of integration problem existed.
