dactylography [‚dak·tə′läg·rə·fē]
(forensic science) The scientific study of fingerprints as a device for identifyingpeople. Dactylography finger writing on any flat suitable surface. It is an effective aid in communication between any literate person and a deaf, or blind and deaf, interlocutor without the use of special means such as dactylology, Braille, or gestures. In communications with a blind and deaf person, the words are traced with the finger on his palm in ordinary letters; if a literate blind and deaf person is unable to speak, he also writes his message either on his interlocutor’s palm or on any other convenient surface, such as a book cover, a table surface, or a board.
