Dalälven

(däl`ĕl'vən), river, c.325 mi (520 km) long, Kopparberg co., W central Sweden, in the mountains along the Norwegian border. It flows SE to Avesta, then NE into the Gulf of Bothnia at Skutskar. The Västerdalälven is its chief tributary. The river passes through the Siljan agricultural region and the Bergslagen and Domnarvet iron-mining districts. Numerous cascades furnish power for industries.

Dalälven

 

a river in Sweden (it originates in Norway). It is formed by the confluence of the Osterdalälven and the Västerdalälven, beginning in the swamps and lakes near the Langfjell massif in the Scandinavian Mountains. It flows into the Gulf of Bothnia. Length, 240 km after the confluence of the two rivers; with the Osterdalälven, it is 520 km long. Basin area, 29,000 sq km. It flows chiefly between high, steep banks as far as the city of Krylbo; then it flows through a series of lakes. In its headwaters and between the lakes are rapids and waterfalls. It has a hydroelectric power plant. Its high-water season is from April to June. It is navigable to a point 10 km above its mouth.

Every 2 weeks during July 13-September 13, 2009, we collected adult female mosquitoes by using 35 miniature light traps from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Atlanta, GA, USA) baited with carbon dioxide; the traps were set within the regular mosquito surveillance area of the River Dalalven floodplains in central Sweden (7).
For my ideal materialistic luxury, I would love another boat that I could leave in Sweden along the banks of the River Dalalven.
