Dane, Nathan (1752–1835) legal scholar; born in Ipswich, Mass. His long career of public service includes being a delegate to the Continental Congress (1785–87) and election to the Massachusetts state senate (1790–98). He revised many Massachusetts laws and wrote General Abridgment and Digest of American Law (8 vols. 1823).
