Daniliuk, Svetlana Filippovna 

Born Sept. 25, 1939, in Kiev. Soviet Byelorussian mezzo-soprano. People’s Artist of the USSR (1977).

In 1963, Daniliuk graduated from the Kiev Conservatory, where she had studied singing under Z. M. Gaidai. In the same year she became a soloist with the Perm’ Theater of Opera and Ballet. She joined the Byelorussian Theater of Opera and Ballet in 1966. She has sung the roles of Liubasha in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride, Marfa in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, the title role in Bizet’s Carmen, and Amneris in Verdi’s Aïda. Her other roles include Ortrud in Wagner’s Lohengrin, Baroness Shtral’ in Tolstoy’s Masquerade, and the title role in Tiketskii’s Alesia. She has performed abroad. Daniliuk received second prize at the Glinka Ail-Union Vocalists’ Competition in 1965.
