dark Web

(1) Any network that operates clandestinely and hides the identity of its users. Also called the "darknet." See Silk Road, Freenet, Tor and anonymous Web surfing.

(2) The collection of software and servers used to distribute music, videos and other copyrighted material illegally. Before the Internet became popular, the dark Web was small and distribution was by floppy disk or tape. Today, the Internet enables copies of copyrighted material to be sent to millions of people around the world within days.
