Darnah

Darnah 

(also Derna), a town in Libya and administrative center of the muhafazat of Darnah. Population, 24,400 (1967).

Darnah is a port on the Mediterranean Sea. It is the commercial center of an agricultural region (citrus and other fruits). There is cement, flour, and soap production, as well as artistic metalwork. In addition, Darnah is a winter resort.

The Sinjar documents showed that most of the Libyans hailed from hotbeds of Islamic extremism in northeastern Libya such as the cities of Darnah and Benghazi, and from the towns of Ras Al Helal and Al Qubbah in the mountainous Jebel Al Akhdar region.
