Dashkevich, Petr Vasil’evich 

Born July 20, 1888; died 1942. Russian revolutionary figure. Member of the CPSU from 1910.

Born in Petergof into the family of a worker, Dashkevich graduated from the University of St. Petersburg. He contributed to the Bolshevik newspapers Zvezda and Pravda, and he was connected with the Bolshevik faction in the Fourth State Duma. As a second lieutenant during World War I (1914–18), he did revolutionary work among the soldiers. After the February Revolution of 1917, Dashkevich was one of the leaders of the military organization under the St. Petersburg Committee and the Central Committee of the RSDLP (Bolshevik). During the July Days he was arrested by the bourgeois Provisional Government, which threatened him with the death penalty. A member of the Petrograd Military Revolutionary Committee during the October armed uprising, he participated in the seizure of the Winter Palace.

Dashkevich was a member of the First and Third Convocations of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee. In 1918 he was chairman of the Petergof city soviet. From 1918 to 1922 Dashkevich was in the Red Army, in which he was a member of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Ninth Army. He was rector of the G. V. Plekhanov Institute of the National Economy from 1922 to 1926. Later, he did responsible work for the party and soviets.
