Introduced in 1981 for the CP/M operating system, DataFlex includes an application development environment with its own 4GL and non-SQL database, but connects to a variety of popular databases. Noted for its speed and ability to handle large databases, DataFlex is the character mode version that runs under Windows Console Mode, Linux and Unix.
