David, Vaclav 

Born Sept. 23. 1910, in Studen. Czechoslovak political figure.

David worked in Komsomol organizations during 1929–32 and from 1934 in the Union of the Friends of the USSR (he was secretary of the Union in Bohemia). He has been a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia since 1935. During the fascist occupation of Czechoslovakia he was an active participant in the Czechoslovak resistance. He was a member of the Fourth Underground Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia from December 1944 and in March 1945 headed the underground Prague district committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. During the popular uprising in the Czech lands in 1945 he was a member of the War Commission of the Czech National Council. In 1945 he became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (CC CPC) and a deputy to the National Assembly. From 1951 to 1953 he was secretary of the CC CPC and from 1953 to 1968 was minister of foreign affairs of Czechoslovakia. From 1968 to 1971 he was the Czechoslovak ambassador to Bulgaria. David has been elected vice-president of the Union of Czechoslovak-Soviet Friendship several times.
