Novogrudskii, David Moiseevich
Born May 10, 1898, in Warsaw; died Dec. 3, 1953. Soviet microbiologist. Novogrudskii graduated from Moscow State University in 1929 and later worked there. He headed the microbiological laboratories of the All-Union Institute of Rubber and Guttapercha (1929–31), the Microbiological Institute of the People’s Commissariat for Education of the RSFSR (1932–35), the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1935–38), the Karaganda Agricultural Experiment Station (1945–46), and the Institute of Soil Science of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR (1946–50). Novogrudskii was one of the founders and editor in chief (with E. E. Uspenskii) of the journal Mikrobiologiia (1932–37). His principal works deal with the ecology, symbiosis, and antagonism of soil microorganisms and with the growth stimulants formed by them.
