Goliath (gōlī`əth), in the Bible, a giant of Gath Gath , unidentified royal city of the Philistines, on the borders of Judah. In the Bible, it was the birthplace of Goliath, and it was a place of refuge for David in the outlaw years. Later he had a loyal bodyguard of Gittites, i.e., inhabitants of Gath.
