Davis, Allison

Davis, Allison (1902–83) cultural anthropologist; born in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Williams College, he studied at Harvard and the London School of Economics before taking a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago in 1942. He taught and was a research associate at Harvard, Dillard, and Chicago, and became an assistant professor of education at Chicago in 1942, where he spent the rest of his academic career. He authored or coauthored eight scholarly works, including Children of Bondage (1940) and Cultural Deprivation (1964).
