Davydov, Boris Vladimirovich
Born 1884; died Sept. 30, 1925. in Leningrad. Russian hydrographer and geodesist. In 1910, Davydov was named commander of the surveying ship Táimyr. He determined the coordinates of a series of points from the cape of Dezhneva to the Kolyma River. In 1913 he became head of a hydrographic expedition in the Pacific. He compiled the Sailing Directions for the Coasts of the RSFSR, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the Eastern Shore of the Kamchatka Peninsula and Karagin Island (1923). In 1924, Davydov commanded the expedition that raised the Soviet flag over Vrangel’ Island: a bay there is now named for him.
