Daxner, Štefan Marko
Born Dec. 22, 1823, in Tisovec; died there Apr. II, 1892. Slovak social figure and author. Daxner was one of the leaders of the Slovak national movement in 1848–49. In the 1860’s he was a prominent leader of the Slovak petit-bourgeois People’s Party. He compiled the Memorandum of the Slovak People in 1861, whose main demand was autonomy for the Slovaks within the framework of the Hungarian kingdom.
