Columbus Day

Columbus Day, holiday commemorating Christopher Columbus's discovery of America. It has been traditionally celebrated on Oct. 12 throughout most of the United States, parts of Canada, and in several of the Latin American republics. In the United States, however, since the observation in 1971 of the Uniform Holiday Act, it is celebrated on the Monday nearest to Oct. 12.

The entry fee is $17 (with a T-shirt) or $11 (without a shirt) through July 3 and $23 and $17, respectively, the day of the race.
At the same time, one would likely want to choose a race for which the chances are good that that the day of the race will not be an overwhelmingly hot one.
Carpenter also claimed a waiver he signed on the day of the race was printed in small type and failed to explain that it released Los Angeles Marathon Inc.
